WELL DONE BMW. THIS TRUMPS THEM ALL.
April Fools is a great opportunity for major brands to carry out ingenious crazy ideas while promoting their brand at the same time. This year we have seen Google turn into Pacman, lions being put up for adoption, Hollard offering “relationship-insurance” and even the suggestion that a new pay-TV subscriber would be taking over the world.
Then there is this idea from BMW which tops them all.
BMW in New Zealand ran an ad in the newspaper.
It read “Be the first person to bring your car, along with this coupon into the BMW Newmarket dealership this morning, ask for Tom and we’ll swap your old car – whatever it is – for a brand new BMW”.
The question was, would anyone take it seriously…

A few hours ago, we published a piece on smart kitchen appliances rejecting junk food. Toasters refusing to toast anything other than wholegrain bread, freezers shutting down when ice cream is
detected. A truly Smart horror. This was a April fool‘s story today. What was your prank?

I love this, although have to say it’s not the “world’s first” reverse April Fool’s – we did one a couple years ago, at the foot of the world in South Africa, for Yuppiechef.com, which you can read about here: http://www.yuppiechef.com/spatula/april-fools-kitchenaid-mixer-for-r5/ 🙂
